Portraits of older men & I get along like turkey & stuffing… the inherent cracks, fissures & lines of their faces translate to pen-work swimmingly. Author Charles Foran wrote a great article about authors (& in turn, artists) developing deep connections with other creatives, often without them knowing. For Foran it was Samuel Beckett (a fine choice!). To reveal that concept (but really to draw Beckett) the cast shadow is that of Charles Foran, putting him in the very real shadow of Beckett. // The second portrait is Michael Ondaatje, created for a book review of one of his past books, where violence is key. Both of these were a treat to whip up… if you've the deepening furrows I've got the lines!
